Menahem Sevdermish Chairman Menahem Sevdermish is an educator, inventor, an outstanding gemologist and a successful gem trader. A Fellow of the Gemological Association of Great Britain, from which he graduated in 1974, that same year he founded Israel’s first gem lab, the Gemological Institute of Israel (GIPS). It is today called the European Gemological Center and College (EGC), and is the largest testing and education body of its type in Israel. In 1981 he founded the Gemological Association of Israel. Menahem is the author of a two-volume book on gemology in Hebrew, which was first published in 1986 and a second edition in 1995. The publication remains the standards gemology text book in Israel. In 1996, he published “The Dealer’s Book of Gems and Diamonds,” a two volume, 1000-page English-language set of books, which discusses, for the first time, the commercial aspects of gemstones. For his professional achievements in the trade and weighing his books as a doctoral thesis, Menahem was awarded a Doctor of Letters by Fairfax University. |  |
Kobi Sevdermish President Kobi Sevdermish, the president of Advanced Quality A.C.C., followed his father's footsteps into the gemstone business. Following a three-year- period of national service as a combat soldier, he joined the industry in 2000 as an employee of Menavi International in Ramat Gan, Israel. Initially, he received a training in the sorting of rough and the pre-shaping of gemstones, and simultaneously studied at the European Gemological Center (EGC) Israel, from which a received a graduate Gemologist diploma. |  |
Dror Zacharia Vice President, Production Dror Zacharia, Advanced Quality’s Vice President with responsibility for production, got his start on the colored gemstone business in 2001 when he graduated as a certified gemologist at the European Gemological Center (EGC) Israel. Soon afterward, he was recruited to Advanced Quality, where for two years he trained in the sorting, pre-shaping, cutting and quality control of gemstones. |  |
Boaz Wexler Marketing Manager Boaz Wexler, Advance Quality A.C.C.’s marketing manager is a relative latecomer to the gemstone business, having started as a photography student in Camera Obscura in Tel Aviv, Israel. He then acquired a B.A. in philosophy and psychology in Haifa University. |  |
Cutting facilities Advanced Quality A.C.C. operates an integrated manufacturing operation, with cutting facilities in Ramat Gan, Israel, and Bangkok, Thailand. In doing so it takes full advantage of the abilities and expertise available in each cutting center, and this plays an important part in the company’s ability to produce top-quality polished gemstones in both smaller and larger sizes. Rough gemstones acquired by Advanced Quality are first shipped to the company’s offices in Israel, where they are sorted, and then put through the pre-shaping and shaping stages. This is managed by an expert staff, using some of the most sophisticated equipment available in the gemstone business, including the Robogem, which is a fully automated computer-aided design and manufacturing system. The shaped gemstones are then shipped to Advanced Quality’s factory in Thailand, where 50 skilled cutters facet and finish the goods using tools that are custom made according to the company’s instructions. ROUGH SOURCES The key to a regular output of high-quality polished colored gemstones is a consistent supply of rough goods, and to manage that Advanced Quality A.C.C. goes right to the source. The company operates jointly owned buying offices in Arusha, Tanzania; Nairobi, Kenya; and in several locations in Madagascar. The rough gemstone suppliers have been working together with Advanced Quality’s founder, Menahem Sevdermish, for more than 30 years. Advanced Quality’s strategy of buying its rough at source was part of deliberate strategy to ensure that the company is always able to acquire quantities of top-quality, natural gemstones, devoid of any treatments. The company specializes in the production of superbly cut smaller-sized goods, from 1.8 millimeters in diameter to 2.0 carats. In addition, and on an ongoing basis, Advanced Quality manufactures special cuts in sizes up to 35 carats for a number of the world’s most exclusive jewelry producers. These ranges of production demand a ready supply of high-quality rough, and this is managed through the operation of the buying offices in Africa. In Tanzania and Kenya, Advanced Quality sources tanzanite; tsavorite (green garnet), chrome tourmaline, earth-colored tourmaline, hot pink spinel, fine quality amethyst and rhodolite, and fine quality Mozambique red garnets. In Madagascar the company sources sapphires in the pink, violet and orange colors, rare high-quality blue sapphires, rubies; rare aquamarines and rare color-change garnets. |   |
MARKETING & SALES Advanced Quality A.C.C’s. customer base is a made up of a limited number of exclusive jewelry and gemstone dealers, manufacturers and distributors. Clients are carefully selected, because the company coordinates its entire rough acquisition and manufacturing operation to ensure that it able meets its customers’ exact requirements. Most of the Advanced Quality’s clients are larger operations, but the firm has a special department that caters to the needs of smaller firms. Advanced Quality is committed to providing its clients with prompt, efficient and personal service, through its offices in Israel, its attendance at a number of major trade fairs, and through regular visits to the clients themselves. In addition, clients are able to maintain constant contact with Advanced Quality via the Internet, using the Gemewizard color communication and trading network. What this means is that, on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week, clients are able to place orders with Advance Quality, providing exact instructions about gemstone type, color, sizes, quantities and cuts. Clients consider Advanced Quality as an integral factor in their own marketing strategies, and as a result regularly invite its representatives to attend annual and quarterly planning sessions, so that Advanced Quality can coordinate its operation to meet the clients’ programs.
